Eating broccoli

As you can see Henrik is venturing into the world of culinary delights where food is not only in pureed form. Last night was the first time Henrik had broccoli in little florets rather than pureed. He seemed to enjoy it. Not sure how much actually ending up in his mouth...Moses cleared considerable about of green blobs from the floor and there was quite a lot left in his chair after eating...But he enjoyed himself, that's the main thing.
Moses is starting to develop a love hate relationship with Henrik. When Henrik has food Moses is his best friend, looking adoringly at every mouthful Henrik takes and making a mental note where any food falls so when he is allowed back in the room after we've finished eating he can clear the floor in a flash. But when Henrik is sitting on the floor Moses goes past him as far as possible as Henrik takes hold of his fur and doesn't let go.
Henrik on the other hand thinks Moses is the best thing ever and tries to catch him whenever he can and he can spend hours just looking at the dog and smiling at him.

Cheeky chops

Henrik is is poorly. He's had very runny nose and groggy throat for couple of days now and he had temperature yesterday so for the last couple of days he has not been interested in much else than snuggling on David's or my chest. However he is still very much interested in his food so he is not too poorly. We are of to see the gp at lunch time just to check that he is ok.
The easter seems to have gone really quickly. We had Richard & Beth and Alan & Jackie around for brunch yesterday which was good fun. I also made some Finnish Easter pudding called pasha which I love. I was talking about it to Jane next door and found it hard to describe what it was so I made them a little one as well. Yet to find out if they liked it.
It also snowed here over the weekend which was very very exciting. There is still little bit left on the ground.
David got me a magimix for my birthday and I have been trying all the different blades and attachments on it. So far I've chopped onions, herbs and nuts with it, sliced some tomatoes, cucumber, mushrooms and pepper with it, mixed a pastry dough and bread dough, juiced some oranges, grated some cheese and pureed lots of food for baba as well as managing to cut my thumb whilst cleaning one of the blades. I love using it. I think I have used it pretty much every day since I got it :) Never knew preparing food could be so much fun...

How bad can the weather be

We thought we'd had pretty nice weather today, the sun was shining, there were couple of snow showers and it was a bit windy when we took the dog out. Pretty much like it has been for the last couple of months here minus the snow of course as it has only been raining. So we didn't think anything of the weather until we read the news...according to which we've had miserable weather! Oh well, you live and you learn ;)

So Henrik has been sleeping in his room for three nights now.
First night was good, he woke up once or twice but nothing that a nappy change, cuddles, some teething gel and dummy  wouldn't sort out.
The second night was not good. He woke up various times and was inconsolable. We went through the usual check list of nappies, dummy etc but nothing worked. He is teething quite a lot at the moment so that has been keeping him awake a bit but usually the teething gel helps, not that night...I even gave him some calpol but he was still not a happy bunny. In the end we decided to go to sleep and hope he would do the same, we fell a sleep and he did the same eventually. In the morning we were exhausted and Henrik was full of smiles before he fell back to sleep and didn't wake up until 9.30.
Last night was a good one, he stirred once, I went and put the dummy back in his mouth and the next thing we knew was hearing John Humprys and Carolyn Quinn on the radio when the alarm went of. We couldn't even remember the last time we were actually been woken up by the alarm rather than a cooing or crying baby! Very nice indeed :)

Henrik's room

So we have finally finished Henrik's room. The curtains are done, the walls are painted, the picture rail and skirting boards are painted, the floor boards are waxed. It is looking very smart, all we need now is a nice little rug for the floor.

So now we just need to move the cot in, put the pictures up on the walls, hang the mobile in the ceiling and the baba is ready to move in. I did have a picture of the curtains but the internet is being slow so I'll do it another time but here are me and the baba in front of his curtains.

"Helping" mummy

Henrik is starting to sit up on his own but it is still a bit wobbly. We've discovered that the washing basket is brilliant for him to sit in, he can sit up on his own and if he looses his balance he can't really fall far before there is an edge to stabilize himself with.

So today when I went to hang the washing he came with me and he seemed quite pleased about being outside in the fresh air and seeing something else than the tops of the trees - his usual view as seen from lying in the pram.

Baba trying new things

This weekend Henrik tasted two new things, porridge and nakkileipa. Or he didn't really taste nakkileipa but chewed and gnarled it until it was soggy and I took it away from him but he seemed to like it nonetheless. Porridge has now replaced babyrice as his breakfast which means he can just have little bit of our morning porridge although slightly modified*.

His room is getting there, David sanded the floorboards over the weekend and they look really nice (my war against carpets is progressing, one room done only rest of the house left...). My job for today is to clean the floor and walls and then we(I) can wax the floorboards tomorrow.
* liquidised and some babymilk added to it  and served with some pureed fruit - this morning it was apple and blueberries

Meet the milkman

We have just had Gavin the milkman around to collect his due. He was very jolly and chatty just as milkman should be. And in the couple of minutes it took David to write a cheque we managed to cover crufts, living in Plymouth (his brother in law does), clocks changing in couple of weeks and lack of proper winter weather.

New tricks

Since Henrik discovered his toes he has also learnt a new game called look mummy I can pull my socks of! So much of my day is spent putting socks back on his little feet or dressing him up in sleepsuits and little rompers where he can't pull the socks of as they are attached.

The nursery is advancing, the walls a painted, the skirting board has an undercoat and David will gloss it tonight. Over the weekend the plan is to sand the floors and I am making curtains and then it is all ready for the baba.

He is still not sleeping well, maybe waking up every half an hour or so from 1.30 the parents are very sleepy, he is full of smiles though.
